Dwight E. Wagner Welcome Center

Construction Updates

Current Progress as of September 26, 2025

Important Construction Information

We are excited to announce that construction for the new Dwight E. Wagner Welcome Center is set to begin in early September 2025. This much-anticipated addition to our campus will be an asset for future Golden Tornadoes, visitors, and current students alike. However, we want to keep you informed about how the construction process will affect daily life on campus throughout the 2025-2026 academic year.

What to Expect:

Construction Start:
Mobilization, site preparation, and new traffic routes, are scheduled to start September 2, 2025.

Duration:
Construction will continue through October 2026, with planned completion scheduled for the fall semester of next year.

Traffic & Parking Adjustments:
See the below diagram to understand the location of the construction zone, traffic routes, and parking areas impacted by the project.

Parking Restrictions: Some parking spots near the construction zone will be closed or limited to support construction logistics. If you normally park in these areas, please plan to arrive earlier or use alternate lots on campus. Subcontractors will be required to park off campus to lessen the parking demand on campus. If you are parked in the restricted construction site, please move your car by 10 pm tonight. Crews will be setting up the extended fencing beginning tomorrow, 9/2/25.

Traffic Detours: Roads and pathways adjacent to the project may periodically be rerouted. Expect increased vehicle and equipment traffic, especially during the early phases (site clearing and excavation fall 2025; building structure winter/spring 2026).

Pedestrian Safety: Fencing and signage will be installed to direct foot traffic safely around the construction area. Please follow all posted signs and allow extra time when walking between buildings.

Noise and Activity:
Construction crews will generally be on site during business hours, with some periods of elevated noise expected. We appreciate your flexibility, especially during times like move-in, commencement, and other high-traffic campus events.

Campus Events Coordination:
We are coordinating with event planners to minimize disruptions during commencement, orientation, semester starts, and other major activities. Please watch your email for special advisories near those dates.

Construction Site Safety:
Only authorized personnel may enter the construction site (that is, enter the safety fencing) and may only do so with the appropriate safety equipment. The College and its general contractor, Massaro Corporation, want to ensure that no one gets hurt during the construction process and we are required to abide by certain safety regulations. Unauthorized persons on the construction site will be subject to disciplinary action under the student and employee handbooks. Academic departments that are interested in a tour of the construction site or other observation experience should contact Craig Lahtinen to schedule a visit.

How You Can Help:

We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we make these important improvements to our campus environment. Your support and flexibility are crucial to a safe and successful project.
